Better known by his stage name Zedd, Anton Zaslavski was born in Saratov, Russia. However, age 4, the family moved to Germany. Growing up in a musical home, with both parents being musicians, Zaslavski started learning the piano at the age of 4 and drums at age 12.
In 2002, Zaslavski began playing for the German deathcore band Dioramic, signed by Lifeforce Records. Zaslavski’s interest in producing electronic music was piqued after hearing the French electronic duo Justice.
In 2010, under the name “Zedd”, Zaslavski started to produced both remixes and originals and by the end of the year, he had won two Beatport remix contests. His first original release, “The Anthem”, entered the Beatport Electro house chart in the top 20.
His remix of Skrillex‘s “Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites” also entered the Beatport Electro House chart, peaking at number 2. Following this, he has remixed a long list of well-known artists, including Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, The Black Eyed Peas, and others.
In 2011, Zedd’s remix of Lady Gaga’s track “Born This Way” appeared on the special edition of her third studio album, Born This Way (2011). In the same year, his single “Shave It Up” premiered as a thirty-second teaser on Skrillex’s YouTube page, this being Zedd’s first release on OWSLA records.
Signing in 2012 to Interscope Records, Zedd released his debut single from the label, “Spectrum”, with vocals by Matthew Koma. This release sky rocketed to the top of Billboard’s Hot Dance Club Songs. This was followed by a co-wrote/producer on the third single “Beauty and a Beat” with Max Martin for Justin Bieber’s third studio album, Believe.
October 2012 saw the released his debut studio album, Clarity, with “Spectrum” as the album’s lead single. “Clarity”, featuring British singer-songwriter Foxes, was released on February 1, 2013 as the album’s third single. The album was a commercial success, charting both on the Billboard Hot 100 as well as various international charts. Next, Zedd toured 5 continents in the final three months of 2013 on his Moment of Clarity World Tour.
“Stay the Night”, featuring Paramore’s Hayley Williams, was released as a single on September 10, 2013, as part of the deluxe version of Zedd’s album. Although it was criticized for its lack of uniqueness, the song charted in Billboard Hot 100’s Top 20, and sold enough copies to be certified platinum.
2013 saw Zedd produced “Aura”, “G.U.Y.”, and “Donatella” on Lady Gaga’s 2013 album, Artpop. Teaming up with Ariana Grande in 2014, their song “Break Free” peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and peaked at No. 1 on the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs.
Zedd released his second single, “Beautiful Now” featuring Jon Bellion, on May 13, 2015. 5 days later, his second studio album was released and peaked at number 1 on Billboard’s Hot Dance Club Songs as well as charting on various international charts. Just a few days later, on 22–23 May, he headlined the Counter Point Music and Arts Festival along with The Roots and Widespread Panic. Along with Eric Prydz, Zedd headlined the first day of 2015 Spring Awakening Festival.
Adding Lady Antebellum to his long list of collaborations, they performed together at the 2015 CMT Music Awards with a mashup of their songs “Long Stretch of Love” and “Beautiful Now.” Enbarking on his second tour, True Colors, he travelled and performed across the world from August to November 2015. Zedd was included in the line-up for Coachella 2016.

His stage name came at school when he sat next to someone who was also named Anton. To avoid confusion, they started calling each other by the first letter of their last names (“zed” is “z” in German). The extra D was added later!
